Mild temperatures and a dry climate make Southwest Florida the place to be during traditionally cold months. Throughout the rest of the year, you can expect hotter weather from May – September, with higher humidity and greater chances of rain during these times.

Let’s take a more detailed look at temperatures, chances of rain, and other information about the weather in Southwest Florida to help you decide when it might be the best time of year to plan your vacation.

We’ll also provide an overview of accommodations available from our Gulf Coast vacation rentals so you can select the home away from home that best suits the needs of you and your family.

Weather by Season

While we’ll start by examining the weather by season in Southwest Florida, it should be noted that this state does not just have traditional seasons but also periods marked with more rain than usual.

Winters run from December – February. During this period, you’ll find cooler daytime temperatures in the mid-70’s and night temps falling into the 50’s. March to May is Spring, when temperatures climb into the 80’s and nights into the 60’s.

Summer in Southwest Florida remains in the 90s through June, July, and August, and then the Fall season comes around in September and lasts til November. In the Fall, temperatures will fall from the high 80’s into the low 80’s, and nights between the mid-60’s and the mid-70’s.

The rainy season is during the summer months: there is the most chance of rain and clouds during this time of year. But the entire rainy season goes from late May until early October. This coincides mainly with the hot season, which starts in earlier May and ends around the same time in October.

Half the year—June 1st until November 30th—is considered hurricane season in Southwest Florida, with the highest chances from mid-summer until the end of October.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Southwest Florida is during the spring and fall months, most notably April through May and October through November.

Winds that tend to pick up in the spring help to keep the humidity levels at a more comfortable level than you’ll find in the summer months.

These specific months are just outside of the traditional thunderstorm and tropical storm season that begins in late May and ends in early October.
