Manatee County was named for the Florida manatee (commonly called a “sea cow” and distantly related to the elephant), the state’s official marine mammal. The Florida manatee is a curious, friendly and playful animal by nature, and swimmers can closely interact with these lovable creatures as they roll and frolic in the warm spring waters of the pristine Crystal River on a short day-trip from Bradenton.
